Meghalaya Dawki Land Port: Union Minister Nityanand Rai inaugurated the port at Dawki Bhoomi in West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya to boost trade between India and Bangladesh. This inauguration was done in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya Sniawbhalang Dhar. Nityanand Rai said that this land port is expected to boost tourism and trade sectors.
Nityanand Rai said that this port has been built keeping in mind the needs of both the countries. It has good infrastructure. Along with this, it has many facilities like canteen, cargo for tourists and power sub-station. It aims to bring all agencies and stakeholders under one roof. Dawki Land Port is located in West Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya. It is 55 km from ‘Jowai’ and about 84 km from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya.
‘I am admiring the charm of Dawki’
The corresponding land port in Bangladesh is ‘Tamabil’, which is located in Sylhet district. The Dawki land port will serve as an important trade and transport hub between India and Bangladesh. Along with this, it will facilitate the movement of people, goods and vehicles from across the border. Along with this, it will also facilitate the movement of passengers across the border. Rai said that Bangladesh is on the path of progress with the help of India. The ties have grown stronger with time. This connectivity will help in taking forward the momentum in health and education sectors as well.
The Union Minister said that ever since I came here, I have been admiring the charm of Dawki. The views here, the hills, the trees and everything I see, I see only beauty in it. this is so beautiful. For development in the region, Rai called on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Praised. He said that the Government of India is working towards making Meghalaya a strong state.
