Bahraich Violence: Supreme Court of UP Yogi Adityanath On Wednesday (October 23), the petition of three accused in the Bahraich communal violence case will be heard against the demolition notice issued by the government. Senior advocate CU Singh, on behalf of the petitioners, mentioned the matter before the bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Vishwanathan and requested for an immediate hearing.
Singh told the bench, “This is a petition by three persons who have received demolition notices. The state government has given only three days to respond to the notice.” Singh said that the father and brothers of petitioner number one have surrendered and the notices were reportedly issued on October 17 and 18. Allahabad High Court had given 15 days time to reply
The lawyer appearing for the Bahraich violence accused said, “We had requested for a hearing on October 20, but it could not happen.” Additional Solicitor General KM Nataraj, appearing for the Uttar Pradesh government, told the court. That Allahabad High Court has considered the matter and has given 15 days time to respond to the notice.
Supreme Court put a stay on the action
After this, the bench said, “If they (Uttar Pradesh government) want to take the risk of violating our order, then it is their choice.” The petitioners’ lawyer said that the High Court has not given any protection. After this, the Supreme Court verbally asked the ASG not to take any action till Wednesday and listed the case for the same day.
Ram Gopal Mishra (22) died on the day of Mahanavami after being shot in an inter-religious dispute over playing loud music outside a worship place in Maharajganj. The incident sparked communal violence, leading to incidents of arson and vandalism in the area and internet service remained suspended for four days.
