Child Suicide Causes : If your child is not sleeping properly and keeps tossing here and there on the bed throughout the night, then do not ignore it. A recent research has revealed a shocking thing. It has been found that if a child does not sleep properly then the risk of suicide increases.
According to a study conducted at the Stanford Suicide Prevention Research Laboratory in California, sleep disturbances in children at the age of 10 may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts two years later. Its risk can increase by 2.7 times. Let us know what the report says…

What does the study say?
Dr. Rebecca Bernert, founder of Stanford Suicide Prevention Research Laboratory in California and suicide expert, said that sleep can cause suicide among youth. One should go for treatment for sleep to prevent suicides. According to this study, lack of sleep is one of the main reasons for suicide at the age of about 10 to 14 years, because lack of sleep is most seen at this age.
Why is lack of sleep becoming a cause of suicide?
In this study, research was done on 8,800 children in 21 places in America. Reasons like problem in falling or staying asleep, waking up, excessive sleep, difficulty in breathing during sleep, excessive sweating during sleep, behavior pattern in half sleep etc. have been observed from the parents of the children. 91.3% of participants had not experienced suicidal behavior since the first data collection.
However, the participants who had suicidal tendencies were suffering from lack of sleep. It was further observed in this study that factors like depression, anxiety and history of family struggle also promoted suicidal thoughts. This study has found that having nightmares every day increases the risk of suicide by 5 times.
How to compensate for the lack of sleep in small children
1. Go to bed wearing comfortable clothes only
2. Get your teeth brushed before sleeping at night.
3. The child should go to the washroom before sleeping.
4. Talk to your child a little while sleeping.
5. Recite poems, stories or songs of the child’s choice.
6. Read a story to your child at bedtime.
