Digvijaya Singh on EVM: After the defeat of Congress in Haryana Assembly elections, Rajya Sabha member Digvijay Singh on Friday (October 11) once again raised questions on Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). He said that due to the current system of EVMs, his constitutional right as a voter has been snatched away. He also claimed that like Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, Congress had won most of the seats in Haryana Assembly elections as per the counting of postal ballots.
Digvijay Singh told the media in Indore, “I am a voter and I have the constitutional right to vote for the candidate of my choice. I will put the ballot paper in the ballot box with my own hand and 100 percent of the votes cast will be counted.” This is my constitutional right which has been snatched away from the present system of EVMs. In the counting of postal ballots held in MP in November 2023, Congress won 199 seats. The party could secure only 66 seats.”
What did Digvijay Singh say on Haryana elections?
Digvijay Singh said, in the recent Haryana Assembly elections, Congress won 76 out of 90 seats in the counting of postal ballots. Whereas after counting the votes cast in EVM, the party’s won seats remained 37. He also said that “misinformation is being spread about the population of the Muslim community of the country.” The Rajya Sabha member said, you look at the population figures (in the last decades), the population of Muslims in the country is increasing at a faster rate than that of Hindus. “The decline is coming.”
The Congress leader advocated conducting caste-based census and socio-economic survey in the country. He said, with these steps, accurate information about the socio-economic backwardness of various castes and sub-castes will be available and on the basis of this information, plans for their development can be made. Digvijay Singh said on a question that he agrees with the demand of giving ‘Bharat Ratna’ to industrialist Ratan Tata posthumously. He also said that it is not possible to implement the concept of ‘one country, one election’ in Indian parliamentary politics.
