UK Elections: The countdown has started for the results of the UK Elections for the post of Prime Minister in Britain. After a few hours i.e. tomorrow, the new Prime Minister of Britain will be known. For this post, Indian-origin Rishi Sunak is in a tough contest with Liz Truss, another candidate of his own party.
In almost all pre poll surveys that came before the election results, Rishi Sunak has been told behind Liz Truss. However, Rishi Sunak was told ahead of Liz Truss at the time of the candidature announcement. Even after falling behind in the results of the pre poll survey, Sunak’s supporters are expecting him to win. The reasoning behind this is that Boris Johnson had also won despite falling behind in the pre poll survey.
After all, how did Rishi Sunak lag behind in the results of the survey?
It is believed that Rishi Sunak could not impress much on issues during the election campaign, while his rival Liz Truss from the Conservative Party is said to be successful in doing so. Liz Truss has contested the election on a promise to cut taxes. He has asked for a cut in the tax of up to 1.25 percent on becoming the PM, while Sunak has been insisting on increasing the tax on the contrary.
According to Sunak, only rich people will benefit from tax cuts and they don’t even need it. In an interview, Sunak had said that he would rather give up than make false promises. He had said that if he becomes the PM, then he will work for the people of the economically weaker sections. Sunak had promised that he would help the families who are worried about the inflated electricity bills. Apart from this, Sunak fought elections in Britain on the issue of inflation.
Opposition to Boris Johnson is also a reason for Sunak’s lagging behind
One of the reasons for Sunak’s lagging behind is also being told by him against Boris Johnson. In July this year, many party leaders resigned questioning the leadership of British PM Boris Johnson. At the same time, Rishi Sunak also resigned from the post of Finance Minister of Britain while Liz Truss stood by Johnson. Johnson also had to resign from the post of PM due to losing the confidence of the MPs, although he is holding the post till the next PM is made. Because of this the process of election started.
At the same time, at the very beginning of the election, Boris Johnson opposed Rishi Sunak. Johnson had said that he can see anyone becoming PM but not Sunak. All these things are being seen as the reason behind Sunak’s lagging behind.
