H-1 Visa Debate: Before the swearing in of US President Donald Trump, there is a debate going on regarding H-1 visa, which has united the radical left and right wings. Indians mainly take advantage of this visa given to high professionals. Meanwhile, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has added to the controversy over H-1B visa by accusing Elon Musk of supporting the visa program only because it provides cheap labor instead of skilled workers.
He said, “The more cheap labor they hire, the more money billionaires will make.” Sanders argued, “The main function of the H-1B visa program is not to hire the ‘best and brightest’ but to replace good-paying American jobs with low-paying indentured servants from abroad.”
Sanders demolished Musk’s claim
On one hand, Elon Musk has denied that labor coming from abroad is more skilled, but Sanders challenged this claim and said that Tesla fired more than 7,500 American employees while thousands of H-1B Hired workers with visas. Sanders questioned the nature of these jobs, saying that Tesla employed H-1B workers as associate accountants, mechanical engineers and material planners at relatively low wages.
Over the past few days, there has been a deep rift in the MAGA club over the H-1B visa program, with right-wing political activist Laura Loomer and Trump-era White House strategist Steve Bannon criticizing the program for not prioritizing American workers. . Bannon even said, “Don’t go on stage in your first week and start telling people how things are going to be. If you’re going to do that, we’re going to screw your face.”
Elon Musk defended the program
In a recent post on social media, Musk defended the H-1B visa program, saying, “I’m in America with many of the important people who built SpaceX, Tesla, and hundreds of other companies that made America strong, The reason for this is H1B.” He also said, “I will fight on this issue, which you cannot possibly understand.”
Sanders stressed that America needs a highly skilled and well-educated workforce, but this must be achieved by hiring qualified American workers and investing in education, rather than relying on cheap workers from abroad. He stressed, “The bottom line is that it should never be cheaper for a corporation to hire a guest worker from abroad than an American employee.”
Why is there controversy regarding H-1 visa?
The H-1B visa program allows companies to hire foreign nationals in specialized businesses such as technology, engineering and finance. However, critics argue that the program is often exploited to hire cheap foreign workers instead of American workers.
The debate over the program has exposed deep divisions among Donald Trump’s allies, with some seeing the H-1B visa program as vital to the technology industry, while others see it as a threat to American jobs. Although Trump himself supported this program.
