Former Karnataka CM and Congress leader Siddaramaiah said on Sunday that if a student can wear a turban, why not a hijab. He said that the government should have resolved this issue (hijab controversy). The dress code should have been set at the beginning of the session. It is intentional to do this in the month of January-February. This is BJP’s conspiracy to stop Muslim girls from education.
The former CM of Karnataka said, the government could have resolved this issue earlier. If a student can wear a turban, why not a hijab? Girls have been wearing it for a long time, then no peace was disturbed. The government asking people to maintain peace is just drama. The statement of the former Chief Minister of Karnataka has come at a time when the politics of the state and the country has heated up regarding this issue.
Earlier on Saturday, in many parts of Karnataka, girl students came to their educational institutions wearing hijab, but they were not allowed to enter citing a court order. According to the information, 58 girl students were suspended in Shirlakoppa of Shivamogga district on Friday for protesting against the pre-university college administration and refusing to remove the hijab. At the same time, a case has been registered against at least 15 girl students in Tumakuru for protesting against the college management for not entering wearing a hijab.
The suspended girl students have been asked not to come to the college. On Saturday also the girl students came to the college, raised slogans in support of wearing hijab, but they were not given admission.
The girl students had said, “We reached here but the principal told us that we have been suspended and we do not need to come to the college. Even the police had asked us not to come to the college, yet we came. No one spoke to us today.”
