Jharkhand Politics: The JMM-led government in Jharkhand has completed three years in office this December. For the first time, this party, which originated from the struggle for the rights of tribals and natives and issues related to water, forest and land, got the fertilizers and water of power. There should be no hesitation in saying that due to power exercise, he is in the strongest position in his history so far.
The working president of the party, Hemant Soren, who is also the head of the state, is batting aggressively on the political pitch despite all the difficulties and challenges. In 2023 also, he will try to stick to the same position because this year is going to be very important from the point of view of preparations for the assembly and Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024. Based on the current position of the party, there are definitely possibilities of a good score for the future, but it is also true that even a single big political mistake by the leadership can push it back.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting Jharkhand on 7th January
The main opposition party of the state BJP is preparing to decorate strong fielding and as soon as it gets a chance, it can move the existing ground of JMM. Union Home Minister and BJP’s top strategist Amit Shah is coming on Jharkhand tour on 7th January. His visit is regarding the organizational work of the party. He will address a public meeting organized by the party in Chaibasa and hold a meeting with the Lok Sabha Core Committee and party leaders.
Recently, National General Secretary of the party Sunil Bansal was also on a tour of the state. Not only did he go to many areas and hold discussions with the leaders of the party, he also tried to gauge the mood of the people. Obviously, the kind of organizational preparations BJP is making for the 2024 elections, the challenges for JMM may increase.
Jharkhand will be freed from BJP in 2024
Supriyo Bhattacharya, senior leader and chief spokesperson of JMM’s central committee, says that even if Amit Shah visits every division and district of the state, he will not be able to revive the marginalized party in Jharkhand. He tells that the year 2023 will be the year of resolution for JMM. Resolve that in 2024 Jharkhand will be freed from BJP.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is completing 50 years of its establishment in the month of February 2023. In the year 1973, among the three prominent leaders who founded it together, Shibu Soren is the only one alive now. He was its founding general secretary and has been its president for the past several decades, but today the actual command of the party is in the hands of his son Hemant Soren, the working president.
JMM had won 30 seats in the 2019 assembly elections
The party fought the assembly elections in 2019 under the leadership of Hemant Soren and achieved its best performance so far in the state. The JMM captured 30 of the state’s 81 assembly seats and formed a coalition government with a total of 47 seats, along with the Congress and the RJD.
This is the longest tenure of JMM in power in the state.
Since the creation of Jharkhand as a separate state on 15 November 2000, the JMM ie Soren family has been in power five times in the state. For the first time he was sitting on the chair of the Chief Minister. All the four JMM-led governments were short-lived. Some government remained guest for only a few days, some for six months and some for 14 months.
Hemant Soren is passing through the most difficult phase of politics
After the assembly elections held in the state in 2019, the JMM-led government was formed for the fifth time and Hemant Soren became the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the second time. This is the longest running government of JMM so far, but it is also true that the head of this government Hemant Soren is going through the most difficult phase of his political life.
In the year 2022, due to ED’s inquiry in mining scam, hearing from Election Commission to courts in mining lease case, crisis on assembly membership, confrontation with Raj Bhavan, arrest of close ones in corruption and money laundering, he faced serious difficulties many times in the year 2022. I was seen roaming around.
Many times the chair is gone now that the condition which was gone then was seen to be taking shape. But, in the midst of all these difficulties, he scored brilliantly on the political front. In the year 2023 also, challenges will remain for Hemant Soren and his party on the legal front. Matters like investigation of mining lease, property of Shibu Soren are in the courts. Many pages are yet to be opened in the ED’s investigation into money laundering.
Hemant Soren made this allegation on ED-CBI raid
Hemant Soren seems ready to face such challenges. Talking to reporters on December 28, he said, “It is no wonder that in the coming days the ED will arrest me as well. When the conspiratorial forces arrested my father Shibu Soren and sent him to jail, then I am the radish of which farm. “
“But I am not afraid of such conspiracies. No conspiracy to scare this tribal son will succeed. When BJP is not able to fight us politically, ED-CBI has been put behind us. There is faith in work and people. We have already marginalized the BJP in the state.” In fact, it is true that due to the popular decisions taken by Hemant Soren’s government in the last few months, JMM has gained a comfortable political edge in the state.
These decisions have increased JMM’s branch in the state
Domicile policy based on Khatian (Land Survey) of 1932 in Jharkhand, increase in percentage of OBC-ST-SC reservation, agreement on thirty years old demand of not giving expansion of Netarhat field firing range, old pension scheme for state employees, Anganwadi workers -Increase in the salary scale of assistants, 13 months salary every year to policemen, stabilization of service of mercury teachers, extension of contract of assistant policemen, increase in the amount of Mukhyamantri incurable disease treatment scheme from five lakh to ten lakh, dalpatis on the posts of panchayat secretary The government has increased the sense of its popularity with decisions like the appointment of
A challenge before the party will also be to help its own people. Senior MLA Lobin Hembram and Hemant Soren’s sister-in-law Sita Soren are often seen standing against their own government. There are voices of protest on some issues from the Congress, the partner in the coalition government, but political analysts believe that the JMM has kept the Congress to a great extent. As of today, Congress cannot see any other political path in Jharkhand other than JMM. However, the coming time will tell better to what extent JMM is able to maintain its political performance amidst the challenges.
