Heatwaves Grip Andhra Pradesh And Odisha: Eight mandals of Andhra Pradesh are facing severe heatwave conditions. The State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has asked people to stay hydrated while venturing out during the day. On the other hand, in view of the sudden increase in the day temperature, the Odisha government has announced the closure of all schools up to class 10 in the state for five days from April 12.
Mercury crossed 40°C
Eight mandals of Andhra Pradesh have faced severe heatwave on Monday (April 10). The temperature was recorded above 40 degree Celsius at many places in the state. There was heatwave in 23 mandals as well. Severe heatwave conditions prevailed in five mandals of Anakapalle and three mandals of Kakinada district. While there are heat wave conditions in Alluri Sitarama Raju, Anakapalle, Eluru, Kakinada, Krishna, NTR, Palnadu and Vizianagaram districts.
On Tuesday (April 11), the Meteorological Department had predicted the situation to worsen. Kunavaram in ASR district, Golgonda and Nathavaram in Anakapalle and Kotananduru in Kakinada district experienced extreme heat. There were heat wave conditions in 126 mandals of 13 districts including 12 coastal districts.
Meanwhile, the highest maximum temperature of 41.4 degree Celsius was recorded in Kurnool. The maximum temperature at other stations was recorded below 38 degree Celsius. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has asked the public to avoid venturing out during the day and stay hydrated. On Wednesday (April 12), there is a possibility of severe heat wave conditions in one division and heat wave condition in 89 divisions of the state.
12 schools in Odisha will remain closed
In view of the increasing heat in Odisha, the state government has directed departments like Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water, Housing and Urban Development and Energy to be prepared to deal with any emergency. The Odisha government has announced the closure of all schools for 5 days in view of the sudden rise in day temperature.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed that Anganwadis and all schools (both government and private) up to class X will remain closed from April 12 to April 16. He said, “For the last few days, the temperature is rising in the state and the meteorological department has also issued a heat wave warning across the state.”
This announcement was made on a day when day temperature crossed 40 degree Celsius at 9 places in the state. Heatwave is likely to prevail in districts like Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and Boudh. Because of this, all the district magistrates have been asked to be prepared for heat wave conditions.
The officers were also directed to ensure smooth supply of drinking water in both urban and rural areas with special focus on water-stressed areas. Besides this, the power department has been asked to ensure uninterrupted power supply to meet the demands during heat wave conditions.
CM Patnaik reviewed various activities of the Health and Family Welfare Department. He expressed satisfaction over the functioning of Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana. These schemes provide free health facilities to about three and a half crore people of the state.
