According to Rev Sports, this time the captaincy of Delhi Capitals may not be handed over to experienced stars like KL Rahul, Axar Patel or Faf Duplessis but to young Abhishek Porel. Abhishek Porel is a wicketkeeper batsman, who made his IPL debut in the year 2023 while playing for Delhi Capitals. Porel was retained by Delhi for Rs 4 crore for IPL 2025. He has played 18 matches in his IPL career so far, in which he has 360 runs in his name.

Strong performance in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Abhishek Porel is in good form at the moment and remains the highest run-scorer for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy so far. In this tournament, he has scored 208 runs in 5 matches at an excellent average of 52. During this period, he has played at a stormy strike rate of 158.77 and has also played two half-century innings. It is also worth noting that Porel does not yet have any experience of captaincy in high level cricket. As far as KL Rahul is concerned, Delhi bought him in the auction for Rs 14 crore. He was captaining Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) since 2022, but he was released before the mega auction.
