In fact, in the year 2015, there was an agitation by the Patidar community demanding reservation under Other Backward Classes (OBC), after which cases were registered against many youths. Hardik Patel has claimed that a representation was made by prominent Patidar leaders and MPs of the community after Bhupendra Patel became the Chief Minister of Gujarat a few months back on this issue. Hardik Patel said, “The Patidar youth are being harassed because of false cases being registered against them. BJP retaliated

On the other hand, hitting back at Hardik, the BJP spokesperson said that the Gujarat government has withdrawn almost 80 per cent of the cases against the protesters. He said, “Both Hardik and Congress have lost their political base in Gujarat. That’s why Hardik is doing such political stunts to stay in the news. The Patidar community has been with the BJP in the past as well in the future. Will be with us.”
