‘Hard to believe that he survived’, why was the IDF confident of Hassan Nasrallah’s death?

Hassan Nasrallah: Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah has been killed in an attack by the Israeli Army in Lebanon’s capital Beirut. There was no news about the Hezbollah Chief since the air strikes targeting Hezbollah’s headquarters yesterday. Regarding this, Israeli officials had already guessed that Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah would have been killed after the attack on the central headquarters of the Iran-backed organization.

“It is difficult to believe that Nasrallah survived,” an Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post, adding that the Hezbollah chief was one of the targets of deadly IDF air strikes on Friday. The Israeli newspaper said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had approved the attack before addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

‘Precise attack targeting Nasrallah’
On Friday, a major Israeli attack took place in the Lebanese capital, in which 300 people were reportedly killed. After this attack, dense clouds of smoke descended over the city. According to the Times of Israel report, this is the biggest attack on Beirut in almost a year of the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel. After the Beirut attack, IDF spokesman R. Adm. Daniel Hagari said they were investigating Nasrallah’s condition and would update soon.

Daniel Haghari said, ‘We launched a highly precise strike to target Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was hiding in civilian buildings in the Dahiya area of Beirut.’ When asked if others had been killed, he said, ‘Once we complete the investigation, we will let you know the details.’

Iran’s emergency meeting
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called an emergency meeting of the country’s Supreme National Security Council at his home on Friday. The New York Times has reported quoting two Iranian officials with knowledge of the meeting. President Massoud Pezeshkian also condemned the attacks, calling them a ‘gross war crime’.

Khamenei’s adviser Ali Larijani said Israel was “crossing Tehran’s red line, and the situation is becoming serious.” Amid speculation about Nasrallah’s killing, Larijani told Iran’s state TV, ‘Assassinations will not solve Israel’s problems.

Several Hezbollah commanders killed
This attack on Nasrallah has taken place at a time when the IDF has increased attacks on Hezbollah. Hezbollah is an Iranian proxy group that has repeatedly targeted Israel. For the last one year, the conflict along with the war in Gaza has been going on between the IDF and Hezbollah.

In another update, the Israeli military said on Saturday it had killed the commander of Hezbollah’s missile unit, his deputy and several other group leaders in an airstrike in southern Lebanon.
