At the same time, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also said that Goa would have become independent in 1947 itself if the armed forces were ordered to free it from Portuguese rule. Both the leaders said this while addressing rallies for the February 14 assembly elections in Goa.

‘Congress has always done injustice to Goa’

Shah said at a public meeting in Bicholim, “Congress has always done injustice to Goa. Whether it is about achieving independence or development. History is witness. Had Nehru’s leadership been decisive, Goa would have attained independence on August 15, 1947, like the rest of the country.’ Goa became independent on 19 December 1961 from the nearly 450 years old Portuguese rule. He said, ‘After a lot of struggle, Goa got independence. It took a long time to achieve this. Yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address in Parliament raised the issue that who is responsible for Goa getting independence so late?’

‘Voters in Goa have only 2 options’
Shah said that Goa Voters have only 2 options, one is the Congress Party, which is led by Rahul Gandhi and the other is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Prime Minister Modi. On the other hand, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, while addressing an election meeting in Ponda, said, ‘Goa would have been liberated in 1947 itself if the armed forces were ordered to free it from Portuguese rule.’ Singh targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his statements on China-Pakistan friendship and the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict.
