Guru Tegh Bahadur Jayanti 2024: The birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur is celebrated on 21 April. This day is celebrated by remembering his teachings and the invaluable contribution he gave to the society. His sacrifice is remembered with great reverence in Sikhism.
Gurudwara Shishganj Sahib is also a symbol of the immortal sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. This is the same Gurudwara where he was put to death on the orders of Aurangzeb. He was martyred at this very place and his last farewell also took place from here. The 9th Guru Tegh Bahadur of the Sikhs is called ‘Chadar of Hind’.
Guru Teg Bahadur was ‘Hind di Chadar’
Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji sacrificed his life for the protection of religion and humanity. It is believed that his martyrdom was the first martyrdom for human authorities in the world, hence he is respectfully called ‘Chadar of Hind’. Guru Teg Bahadur, the embodiment of patience, renunciation and sacrifice, had meditated for 20 years. He made many long journeys in the country to propagate the principles of Guru Nanak.
Guru had taken iron from Aurangzeb
When Aurangzeb was the Mughal emperor, people were forced to change their religion. Many Kashmiri Pandits became victims of this, then people turned to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji for help. Guru Teg Bahadur was strongly opposed to forcibly converting Hindus into Muslims in Kashmir. Aurangzeb did not at all accept that anyone disobeyed his orders. Guru Teg Bahadur himself had refused to accept Islam. That’s why he got Guru Teg Bahadur beheaded on 24 November 1675 at Chandni Chowk in front of the Red Fort of Delhi.
Special things about Guru Tegh Bahadur
Guru Tegh Bahadur’s name was Tyag Mal. The name Guru Tegh Bahadur was given to him by Guru Hargobind Ji. Tegh Bahadur’s brother Buddha trained him in archery and horse riding. Guru Tegh Bahadur is also known to have traveled extensively to propagate the teachings of Guru Nanakdev.
