Gujarat Couple Hostage: A couple living in Naroda, Ahmedabad city of Gujarat had planned to enter the US illegally. Although he was taken hostage by an agent of Pakistan in Iran and now he is demanding money for his release. A police officer gave this information on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Chaitanya Mandlik said that an FIR in this regard is being registered at Krishna Nagar police station in Naroda area and the crime branch of Ahmedabad city has started investigation. Since the incident took place outside the country, he said. Therefore, the Crime Branch will coordinate with the Indian Embassy in Iran to ensure the release of the couple.

Mandlik told that both have been identified as Pankaj Patel and his wife Nisha Patel, both are 29 years old. According to details shared by the couple’s family with the Krishnanagar police, the two wanted to enter the US illegally and came in contact with an agent in Hyderabad, Pakistan, who arranged air tickets for them.

Officials said they reached Tehran, Iran as part of the plan where Pakistani agents took them to a hotel and held them hostage for ransom. He told that the Pakistani agent and his accomplices beat up Pankaj Patel and sent his video to the family and demanded a huge amount for the couple’s release.

Earlier, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel had caught an Iranian couple who were trying to go to Pakistan by crossing the Munabao border in Barmer district. He was brought to the CID office in Barmer where he was interrogated.

According to information received from police and BSF, Delhi resident taxi drivers Akbar Ali and Saraj Rajjan were caught near Munabao. They told the police that they had left Mumbai for Hyderabad but GPS navigation misled them and they reached Munabao.
