Opposition Parties Meeting in Patna: In the Lok Sabha Election 2024, the opposition parties engaged in a united effort to enter the fray against the BJP are going to meet in Patna on Friday (June 23). A ‘general meeting’ of opposition parties has been called on the call of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Many veteran leaders will brainstorm in this meeting with the aim of ousting the BJP from power at the Center and will chalk out a strategy to form a strong front against the government led by Prime Minister Modi. Leaders of 15 opposition parties are going to participate in this meeting. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, party leader Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Maharashtra Ex. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, NCP President Sharad Pawar, Tamil Nadu CM and DMK Chief MK Stalin will attend the meeting.
These leaders will attend the meeting of opposition parties
Apart from these, former Jammu and Kashmir CM and PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, former Jammu and Kashmir CM and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, CPI leader D Raja, Communist Party of India General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya is also going to participate in this first high-level meeting of the opposition.
Jayant Chaudhary will not attend the meeting
The meeting is being hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav. Rashtriya Lok Dal was also to participate in this meeting. However, party president Jayant Chowdhary is not attending the meeting due to a pre-determined schedule. He has expressed his support for opposition unity by writing a letter on Thursday (June 22).
What will be the agenda of the meeting?
Sources say that in the meeting of the opposition parties, the focus will be on the strategy of common competition, bypassing the questions related to the PM candidate. All parties also agree that the first target is BJP and Narendra Modi has to be removed from power. The same thing can also be announced. An agreement can also be reached on fielding only one opposition candidate against the BJP in about 450 seats. Arvind Kejriwal is going to raise the issue of the ordinance of the Center in this meeting, while Mamta Banerjee can also raise the issue of nexus between the Congress and the Left in Bengal.
Will you stick to the ordinance issue?
According to Aam Aadmi Party sources, tomorrow the party is going to raise the issue of ordinance in the meeting. In the meeting, if the Congress does not announce its support to AAP against the ordinance in the Rajya Sabha, then the Aam Aadmi Party can walk out of the opposition meeting. According to sources, there is no chance of agreement between Congress and AAP in Punjab while the situation regarding Delhi is not clear.
What can be the stand of Congress?
On this stand of the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress sources say that the party is not going to take any decision under anyone’s pressure. The meeting has been convened regarding the strategy for the Lok Sabha elections, in which the pre-determined agenda will be discussed. The Congress has already made it clear that a strategy will be chalked out only when the central government’s ordinance bill brought in the matter of transfer posting in Delhi is brought in the Parliament. Party sources also indicated that the Congress may oppose the ordinance in Parliament.
Many leaders reached Patna only on Thursday
Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, CM of Punjab Bhagwant MannMany leaders including Mehbooba Mufti, MK Stalin reached Bihar a day before on Thursday to attend the meeting. Mamta Banerjee also met RJD chief and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and State Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in Patna. During this, he also touched the feet of Lalu Yadav.
What did Mamta Banerjee say before the meeting?
After this, he met the Chief Minister of the state, Nitish Kumar, at the Circuit House in Patna. The West Bengal Chief Minister expressed hope that the opposition meeting would be constructive and said that the BJP must be defeated in the next Lok Sabha elections to save the country from destruction. He said that tomorrow we have a meeting of the opposition. We hope that it will be good and collective decisions will be taken. I think people will vote against BJP to save the country from destruction.
Mayawati’s target on opposition parties
Meanwhile, on Thursday, former UP CM and BSP chief Mayawati targeted the opposition parties. He said that this meeting called by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar gives meaning to the proverb ‘Dil mile na mile, haath milate rahiye’. He said that the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh are considered to be the key to electoral success, but the attitude of the opposition parties does not show that they are truly concerned and serious about their goal in the state.

Targeting the parties participating in the meeting, the BSP chief said that without proper priorities, the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections would be able to bring about the necessary change in reality here. These parties were not invited
Mayawati has not been invited to this meeting. Apart from this, Bharat Rashtra Samithi of Telangana, Biju Janata Dal of Odisha and YSR Congress Party are among those non-BJP parties. Those who were not invited to attend this meeting. JDU spokesperson KC Tyagi had said that we have invited only those parties, which are ready to fight against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“No vacancy for the post of Prime Minister now”
Regarding this meeting, former Chief Minister of Bihar Jitan Ram Manjhi said that there is a meeting of opposition parties tomorrow, there are many candidates for the post of Prime Minister, but it will not be decided in one meeting. We understand that there is no vacancy for the post of Prime Minister in India.
BJP is raising questions about leadership
The BJP is also targeting the opposition parties over the differences and is repeatedly raising the question of leadership as to who will be the prime ministerial face of the opposition. BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad had said that who will be the face of the opposition PM? This is a coalition of people with selfish interests for the chair. They cannot take on PM Modi alone, they are trying to do it together.
