Lok Sabha Election: The Odisha government has declared a public holiday in the respective constituencies on Thursday for the four-phase voting for 28 Lok Sabha and 147 assembly seats in the state. Voting will be held in the state on May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1.
When will there be holidays in government offices?
“The Government of Odisha has issued notice to the employees of government offices and magistrate courts (executive) falling under the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies on May 13 (Monday), May 20 (Monday), May 25 (Saturday) and A holiday has been declared on June 1 (Saturday), so that all the employees can exercise their franchise.
According to the election schedule, voting will be held for 28 assembly seats of the state and four Lok Sabha seats – Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Berhampur and Koraput on May 13. Voting will be held on May 20 for Bargarh, Sundergarh, Bolangir, Kandhamal and Aska Lok Sabha seats as well as 35 assembly seats.
When will elections be held in Odisha?
Voting will be held in the third phase on May 25 in six Lok Sabha seats of the state – Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Puri and Bhubaneswar. Voting will also be held for 42 assembly constituencies falling under these Lok Sabha seats. Voting will be proposed in the last phase on June 1 for the remaining six seats of Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and 42 assembly seats.
Earlier on Tuesday (April 2), the Election Commission had ordered the Odisha government to transfer eight officers including two District Magistrates, five Superintendents of Police and an Inspector General of Police. Commission Secretary Rakesh Kumar, in a letter to Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena, said that the said officers should be transferred for additional work before the elections.
“I am directed to inform that the Commission has decided that eight officers be transferred to non-election related posts with immediate effect,” the letter said.
