Tur-Urad Price: There has been a jump in the prices of Toor i.e. Arhar Dal and Urad in the recent months. Meanwhile, the Central Government has reviewed the disclosure of stock of Toor and Urad in the country on Wednesday. Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh has reviewed the stock of both types of pulses in association with major producing and consuming states of tur and urad dal. Officials from Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh have participated in the meeting.
The registered firms of the states involved in this meeting and the stock available with them have been reviewed. Also, states have been asked to ensure that importers, millers, stockists and traders give correct details of their stocks. The number of people registered in the stock disclosure portal has increased. But it is believed that the number of stakeholders may be more in the states. It was concluded in the meeting that the declared stock of Arhar Dal in some states is very less as compared to the production and consumption of Tur. States have been asked to scan the data of FSSAI license, APMC registration, GST registration, warehouse and custom bonded warehouse.
The states told in the meeting that monitoring has been increased in the state and steps are being taken to make stock information available on the stock disclosure portal along with making registration mandatory. The central government has asked the states to verify the stocks. And those who have not disclosed the stock have also been asked to take action against them under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and the Hoarding Act. The central government has also deputed 12 senior officers in the capital and districts of the tur producing states.
Last month, the Central Government has decided to form a committee to monitor the stock of Arhar Dal and take action by identifying those who are short of Arhar Dal in the hoarding market. This committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Nidhi Khare, Additional Secretary, Jago Consumers. The government had received inputs that despite the import of Arhar pulses in sufficient quantity, the stock is not being released in the market. Hoarding of Arhar pulses is being done. And through hoarding, efforts are being made to deliberately create a shortage of Arhar pulses in the market. Due to the hoarding, a jump has also been seen in the prices of Arhar Dal during the days of Dal.
According to the data of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the prices of Arhar Dal have increased. On February 2, 2023, the average price of Arhar Dal has reached Rs.110.99 per kg and on April 12 it has reached Rs.116.01 per kg. That is, in less than two months, there has been a jump of about 5 percent in the prices of pigeon pea or toor dal. So there has been a rise in the prices of Urad Dal.
