Macron Phone Call With Lebanese Leaders: Amid the continuous attacks in Lebanon, French President Emmanuel Macron has urged all parties to exercise restraint. Emmanuel Macron held a phone call with Lebanon’s top political and military leaders and a separate conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In this conversation, Macron urged restraint after incidents of explosions of pagers and radio devices. The French President asked Lebanese leaders to convey a message to local groups including Hezbollah so that further escalation of tensions could be avoided.
Hezbollah declares war
Hezbollah has described the explosions in pagers and walkie talkies on 17 and 18 September as a major setback. Hezbollah chief Nasrallah said that Israel is involved in this and these attacks are a declaration of war, because this is the intention of the enemy.
Nasrallah has vowed to avenge the attacks. He said, “I will not talk about the time, place, location, or other details. You will know when it happens. This account will be settled.”
The matter reached the United Nations
Amid the latest dispute, Israel has bombed several Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. Israel said that two of its soldiers were killed on the northern border with Lebanon. The Israeli Defense Forces said in a statement that they are trying to weaken Hezbollah’s terrorist capabilities and infrastructure.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati has called on the United Nations to “take a tough stand” against Israel. The Lebanese PM has accused Israel of waging a ‘technology war’. Najib Mikati has said in his statement, “Stopping Israel’s aggression is not only in the interest of Lebanon but also in the interest of the entire humanity.”
