IPL 2023: Indian Premier League was successfully conducted, but despite this the teams are not completely satisfied with it. The franchisees want the board to draft players instead of mini auctions and a mega auction should be organized once in every three years. Now it has to be seen how much the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) likes this idea.
Why the demand for draft?
Despite being a mini auction, Sam Curran got a price of Rs 18.5 crore. Cameron Green (17.5 crore), Ben Stokes (16.25 crore), Nicholas Pooran (16 crore) and Harry Brook (13.25) were also sold at very expensive prices. Rajasthan Royals had made a bid of Rs 13 crore for Brook and if they had got Brook, their entire purse would have been empty to buy only one player. If the draft is brought, then everyone’s price will be fixed and in this case the extra expenditure on the players in the auction will end.
Mega auction to be held in 2025
The mega auction was organized for the 2022 season, so now it will be organized for the 2025 season. Recently, some reports claimed that the agents of foreign players do not want to bring their players to the mega auction as mini auctions are expected to fetch more money. At present, BCCI has a lot of time to take a decision. Draft is used in all T20 leagues like Pakistan Super League and this is the reason why players do not earn much money anywhere other than IPL.
