GN Saibaba Passed Away: Former Delhi University professor GN Saibaba passed away on Saturday. He breathed his last in a hospital in Hyderabad. He had undergone surgery after complaining of stones in the pancreas. He was also struggling with post-operative problems. He was undergoing treatment at Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad. He was admitted to this hospital about 10 days ago. He suffered a heart attack around 8 pm on Saturday night and doctors declared him dead around 8:30 pm.
Let us tell you that GN Saibaba was a former professor of Delhi University. He was arrested under the Unlawful Activities Act (UAPA). He was accused of having links with Maoist organizations.
Was held guilty under UAPA and Indian Penal Code
Gadchiroli Court of Maharashtra had convicted GN Saibaba under UAPA and Indian Penal Code in 2017. After which GN Saibaba had filed an appeal in the Bombay High Court against the decision of the Gadchiroli Court. On October 14, 2022, the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court had released GM Saibaba. After this, on October 15, the special bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice MR Shah and Justice Bela Trivedi changed the decision of the High Court. The court believed that GN Saibaba and other accused were guilty of serious crimes against the sovereignty and integrity of the nation.
He was released this year
In the same year, Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court had once again released GN Saibaba. During this time, the court had said that downloading communist or Naxalite literature from the internet and being a supporter of any ideology does not fall in the category of UAPA offence, after which the Maharashtra government had approached the Supreme Court against the decision of GN Saibaba’s release.
