Nomination was done as a second option
Ashutosh Verma had filed nomination on the last day on 3rd April. In case Ravidas Mehrotra’s nomination was rejected, SP had made Dr Ashutosh Verma its candidate as the second option. But this did not happen and after scrutiny of nomination papers, nominations of SP leader Ravidas Mehrotra were found to be all. Because of this, Ravidas Mehrotra will now be the SP candidate from Lucknow seat.
On the other hand, the nomination of Dr. Ashutosh Verma, who had filed nomination as SP leader, has also now been rejected. SP had nominated Dr. Ashutosh Verma as a precautionary measure. BJP has been in possession of this seat since 1991. From 1991 to 2004, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had won five consecutive times.
After him, Lalji Tandon contested this seat in 2009 and won. But after that, BJP made Rajnath Singh its candidate on this seat and in the last two elections, he has won the elections by a huge margin. Now he is contesting elections again.
