Maharashtra Assembly Election Result 2024: maharashtra assembly elections It has given shocks to the opposition Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) at many levels. Mahavikas Aghadi could not gain power and many of its big leaders also lost the elections. Now the problem of not having a Leader of Opposition in the Assembly has arisen because the main opposition party has not been able to get the number of seats required to become the Leader of Opposition.
To become the Leader of Opposition, the opposition party must have 10 percent seats in the Assembly. At least 28 seats should be with any opposition party, but neither Congress, nor Shiv Sena-UBT nor NCP-SP have been able to get 10 percent seats in Mahavikas Aghadi. Congress has got 16 seats, Shiv Sena-UBT 20 and NCP-SP 10 seats. The performance of these parties has been very disappointing.
This was the performance in 1967
This will be the first time since 1967 that there will be no Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly. At that time there were 270 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly. Of these, Congress alone had won 203. PWP won 19 seats, CPI 10, PSP 8, RPI five, BJS four, SSP four, CPM one while independents won 16.
These big leaders have taken the responsibility of Leader of Opposition
Celebrities like Manohar Joshi, Narayan Rane, Eknath Khadse, Radha Krishna Vikhe Patil, Devendra Fadnavi, Ajit Pawar and Vijay Wadettiwar have been opposition leaders. After the 2019 assembly elections, there was a Mahavikas Aghadi government for the first two and a half years and a Mahayuti government for two and a half years. Devendra Fadnavis was the leader of opposition in the Mahavikas Aghadi government.
Vijay Vaddetiwar remained leader of opposition for one year
When the Mahayuti government came to power in 2022, Ajit Pawar was made the leader of opposition from Mahavikas Aghadi for some time. But in 2023, when he himself joined the Mahayuti government, Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar was made the Leader of Opposition in his place. Vijay Wadettiwar took over this responsibility on 3 August 2023. This is because after the split in NCP, the number of MLAs of Sharad Pawar faction had reduced to 12 and Congress had more MLAs than the Uddhav faction.
