IIM Ahmedabad PhD Reservation: The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), has taken a historic decision to introduce a reservation system in its PhD courses. The decision is particularly significant for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC) and differently-abled candidates, allowing them to apply for the Management Doctorate Programme (or Fellow Programme in Management) at the country’s top business school.
Detailed information in this regard will be released soon. The institute has clarified in a notice that the guidelines of the Government of India will be followed regarding reservation during admission. This decision was taken after the oral comments of IIM Ahmedabad on behalf of the Gujarat High Court, which said that reservation will be applicable from 2025.
How much discount will you get
Under the reservation system, if a candidate belongs to SC, ST, Person with Disability (PWD), Non-Creamy Other Backward Class (NC-OBC) or Economically Weaker Section (EWS), then he/she will be given relaxation of 5% marks in the minimum eligibility degree. This will help the candidates from these categories in their educational journey.
petition was filed
A public interest litigation (PIL) was also filed in this regard, in which Global IIM Alumni Network urged the Gujarat High Court to implement reservation in IIMA’s PhD programmes. It was mentioned in the petition that the absence of reservation in the PhD programme at IIM Ahmedabad, established in 1971, is a violation of constitutional provisions, which is contrary to the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act and the norms of the University Grants Commission.
You will have to take a standard test
As per the PhD admission process of IIM Ahmedabad, candidates applying for the Doctoral Programme in Management will have to appear for a standard examination instead of the Common Admission Test (CAT).
