Philippines-Morocco UIDAI: Aadhaar card system is already very popular in India. After this, Philippines and Morocco have now become the first two countries to adopt the open-source technology architecture of Aadhaar card for their citizens. A senior official gave this information on Wednesday (March 22).
For this, the Indian Institute of Technology Bangalore (IIT-B) and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) are helping to build the Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP). With the help of the necessary technological stack, we are developing to make life easier for the people and to provide legal identity to the citizens.
How can I use the infrastructure?
In this regard, the official refused to name and said that the list of Aadhaar 2.0 includes global reach and helping other countries. We already have eight to ten countries from different parts of Asia and Africa. They want to understand what Aadhaar is and how they can potentially use the Aadhaar infrastructure.
Togo, Kenya, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Singapore are some of the countries that have shown interest in adopting similar unique identification platforms, he added. Brazil, Egypt and Mexico are also in discussion with the Government of India to understand the structure of Aadhaar.
India offering stack
The UIDAI at the India G20 summit comes as a significant development in the government’s efforts to promote public digital infrastructure. As mentioned earlier, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has also launched the G20 Digital Innovation Alliance (DIA) to focus on priorities such as Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), cyber security and digital skill development.
The government is offering other countries the Bharat Stack, which includes open-source software application programming interfaces (APIs) of government-backed services such as Aadhaar, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), eSign, DigiLocker, etc.
was started in 2010
The first Aadhaar number was issued in the year 2010 in September. At the same time, till June 2022, more than 133 crore Aadhaar cards have been issued. However, due to the death of many people, the prescribed number of Aadhaar number holders may be less.
At the same time, according to official data, UIDAI currently records seven to eight crore Aadhaar related dates every day. With this, the identity of the Aadhaar holder is submitted to UIDAI. After this UIDAI tells whether the special number matches with the information of the Aadhaar holder or not.
