Weather Report 4th January: Cold wave and fog continue to wreak havoc across North India including Delhi-NCR. However, people are still waiting for the severe cold. There is a yellow and orange alert for fog and cold in many states of North India on Saturday (January 4, 2025). On Saturday morning, havoc of fog is being seen in all the states of North India.
Due to cold, severe effect of fog and cold wave has been seen in North India’s Delhi-NCR, UP, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, Delhi’s 24-hour average AQI was recorded at 371, which falls in the very poor category. Meanwhile, according to IMD, due to western disturbance, there is a possibility of rain with strong winds in the country’s capital Delhi till next January 6.
How is the condition of hill states?
Winter is increasing with snowfall and falling temperatures in hilly states like Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rain warning has been issued in Jammu and Kashmir for today and tomorrow. The minimum temperature in Kukarnag, Kupwara and Srinagar may drop to minus 6 degrees Celsius. The weather will be clear in Uttarakhand today. There is no alert of fog and cold wave. This situation is likely to persist till January 9. The weather is expected to remain clear in Himachal Pradesh today, although there may be light rain with thunder on January 5 and 6.
Weather condition of UP
The sky is expected to remain clear in most parts of western Uttar Pradesh on January 4. However, light to moderate fog may occur during late night and early morning hours. Apart from this, the weather will be slightly different in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Along with cold wave, there is a possibility of dense fog late night and morning.

Due to heavy cold and fog, all flights have been affected due to dense fog condition and low visibility at Delhi Airport. All scheduled flights are delayed by half an hour to two and a half hours. Although there is no diversion in landing yet due to fog, all airlines have advised their passengers to check the current status of their flight before leaving home.
Impact of heavy fog and cold on rail traffic visible
The impact of the ongoing severe cold in the country is clearly visible on the Railways as well. About 49 trains are running late due to fog. These trains are running late by half an hour to 5 hours. The names of some of these trains are as follows. 12397 Mahabodhi Express from Gaya to Delhi is running behind schedule by 5 hours 10 minutes. 12451 Shram Shakti Express, which goes from Kanpur to Delhi, is running 3 hours 30 minutes late from its scheduled time. Apart from this, there are many such trains which are running late by a few hours and minutes. In this, 12263/Pune-Hazrat Nizamuddin AC Duronto Express (29 minutes), 12301/Howrah – New Delhi Rajdhani Express (via Gaya) is running late by 35 minutes. Therefore, all passengers are requested to check the train timings before leaving home for the station to avoid any inconvenience.
