Pakistan Floods: In the last few days, floods have wreaked havoc in Pakistan. The situation has become so bad that the government of Pakistan has decided to call the army for rescue and relief work. Giving information about this on Saturday, Home Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the army is being called under Article 245 of the Constitution. This is the worst flood in Pakistan in the last few years and it has affected one in every 7 Pakistanis i.e. 330 million people.
Hundreds of people died in floods
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), so far 982 people have died due to floods in Pakistan and 45 people have lost their lives in the last 24 hours. The NDMA said that 1,456 more people were injured in the last 24 hours. However, according to unofficial sources, the number of people who lost their lives and got injured in the floods is much higher than the official figure. Home Minister Sanaullah said such flood situation has arisen after more than a decade and armed forces are being deployed.
149 bridges washed away in the country due to floods
Sanaullah said that the army is being called under Article 245 of the Constitution, according to which the government can call the army to help the people in times of emergency. An official notification issued on Friday said the number of troops and the area of deployment would be decided by the respective provincial governments in consultation with the Army Headquarters. Flooding The infrastructure of the country has been severely affected and according to the NDMA, 3161 km of roads have been damaged, 149 bridges have been washed away and 6,82,139 houses have been partially or fully damaged.
About 57 lakh people do not even have food.

The havoc of the floods can be gauged from the fact that due to this, almost half of Pakistan has been submerged and more than 57 lakh people are without shelter and food in 110 districts. Sindh and Balochistan have been most affected by this disaster and Pakistan Railways have suspended services at many places. According to Environment Minister Sherry Rehman, the country used to have 3 to 4 rainy seasons every year, but this time 8 monsoons have arrived and more rains are expected.
One out of every 7 Pakistanis has been affected by floods.
Shahbaz Sharif held high profile meeting
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday held a meeting with ambassadors, high commissioners and other select diplomats based in Islamabad and briefed them about the dire flood situation in the country. The meeting was attended by diplomats, ambassadors and high commissioners from Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Kuwait, UAE, Turkey, South Korea, USA, Germany, Bahrain, European Union, France, Oman, Qatar, UK and Saudi Arabia. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, representatives of the World Food Program were also involved in this meeting. Sharif said more than 33 million people have been affected due to the flash floods and rains.
