Madhya Pradesh Bye Election 2024: A case has been registered against Congress Rajya Sabha member Digvijay Singh and two other party leaders for allegedly misleading voters by sharing an old video of the BJP candidate for Madhya Pradesh’s Vijaypur assembly by-election. Police gave this information on Saturday. Apart from Digvijay Singh, opposition leader Umang Singhar and deputy leader of opposition in the assembly Hemant Katare are also named in the complaint.
This case has been registered on the complaint of BJP General Secretary Arvind Singh Jadaun. The FIR states that Digvijay Singh, Umang Singhar and Hemant Katare have shared the six-year-old video of BJP candidate Ramniwas Rawat on their social media accounts to tarnish his image. The video reportedly showed some villagers shouting at Rawat over the water problem.
Complaint filed in this case
On this, in the video, Ramniwas Rawat was heard saying with his security officer that if the villagers do not want to vote for him, then they should not vote. Rawat was a Congress MLA six years ago. Arvind Singh Jadaun claimed that releasing the video is a violation of the model code of conduct. The FIR states that a video can be made public on social media only after obtaining permission from the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) constituted by the Election Commission.
Arvind Singh Jadaun alleged that the video has been shared to mislead voters. Police have registered a case against the three Congress leaders under section 223 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) (disobedience to orders issued by public servants).
