Filmmaker Vasan Bala Addresses Plagiarism Allegations Against ‘Jigra’

New Delhi: There have been claims that the Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina film ‘Jigra’ plagiarized Divya Khossla’s ‘Savi’. Divya Khossla’s criticism of the purportedly “fake” box office receipts of ‘Jigra’ on social media raised the matter. Now, filmmaker Vasan Bala addressed these claims in a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter.

Vasan Bala disclosed that the release of ‘Savi’ occurred during the editing of ‘Jigra’ and the film is not a copy. He said, “Everyone can watch it and make up their minds. I don’t really want to bring down anyone or add more fuel. With the false bookings, that, I think, is a distribution question. I don’t think it is that murky at all, but anyone who can investigate and bring out anything is more than welcome.”

In regards to the film’s poor box office performance, Vasan Bala said that it’s difficult to handle and that he feels let down by producers Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt. He took full responsibility for the mainstream film industry’s failure to meet expectations at the box office.

About ‘Jigra’

The film ‘Jigra’ depicts the strong relationship between siblings. The film stars Alia as Satya Anand, a young woman whose mission in life is to rescue her brother Ankur Anand (Vedang Raina) from a foreign prison. Satya promises to fight for his freedom. In addition to them, the film also stars Manoj Pahwa and Rahul Ravindran.

Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Alia’s Eternal Sunshine Productions teamed up to create the action-thriller, which is directed by Vasan Bala.

According to reports, ‘Jigra’ will be accessible to stream on Netflix after its theatrical run.
