If Nehru has made a mistake, we will also make a mistake, is this the way? Singhvi said that this is not logical. He said that the Emergency in 1975 lasted for 18 months and people finally reposed faith in the leadership of Indira Gandhi.
‘The Constitution, the sacred book of sovereignty, is in danger’
Singhvi said, “That Emergency was a distortion, which the Constitution also supported.” There were faults, but it ended. What is the time limit for this undeclared emergency that is in place now? What protective shield does the Constitution provide to end this, there is nothing, zero.” Making a scathing attack on the central government, he said, “There is an atmosphere of fear in the country. The Constitution, the sacred book of our sovereignty, is in danger, the pillars of democracy are trembling as autocracy is entering our temples of power, the sanctity of secularism is being torn to pieces and federalism is being disintegrated.
‘The protectors of democracy have become its conspirators’
Singhvi said, “We are witnessing a time where institutions are becoming dysfunctional, dissent is being stigmatized and truth is being stifled. The protectors of democracy have become its conspirators, the protectors of freedom are now its hunters. Singhvi said that Gandhi-Nehru-Patel must have done something right, that is why democracy remained strong in India while it faltered in many other countries. . He said that the present government is working against the principles of secularism and federalism. Referring to bulldozers being used on buildings in some states, he said that more than 95 percent of the action has been taken against a particular community. Singhvi said that this is bulldozer politics and the central government has glorified it so much that now the chief ministers are competing against each other.
‘Governors were also attacked’
Singhvi also attacked some governors who according to him were working against the principle of cooperative federalism. Singhvi said, “The elected government has the right to make mistakes… The Governor is not a super CM… Today we have a super CM.” He also said that bureaucracy should be a pillar of the Constitution but on that. is also being attacked. The Congress leader said that today slavery and loyalty have become paramount in bureaucracy and those who do not do so are tortured. He also raised questions on the media.
