Papua Earthquake: Earthquake tremors were felt in the easternmost province of Indonesia on Monday 3 July. However, there is no immediate report of any major damage or casualties after the earthquake. The US Geological Survey said, the earthquake was of 5.4 magnitude.
The epicenter was 135 kilometers (83 mi) southwest of Abepura, a subdistrict of Jayapura, the capital of Papua province. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 13 kilometers (8 mi) at ground level. However, no damage has been caused by the earthquake.
Earthquake tremors can be felt again
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency said there was no tsunami threat, but warned of aftershocks. The agency has measured the initial intensity of the earthquake at 6.4. They say that changes in the initial measurements of earthquakes are common. Papua is one of the least populated provinces of Indonesia. Papua has a population of just over 1 million.
