Earthquake in Gujarat: Earthquake of 3.8 magnitude was felt in Kutch, Gujarat on Saturday (January 4, 2024) at 4:37 pm. According to the report of news agency IANS, the epicenter of the earthquake is said to be near Dudhai in Kutch. Earlier, on the first day of the new year, an earthquake of 3.2 magnitude had occurred in Kutch, in which there was no casualty or loss of property. The earthquake was recorded at 10.24 am, with its epicenter located 23 km north-northeast of Bhachau.

An earthquake of 3.7 magnitude occurred in Kutch district on 23 December 2024 and an earthquake of 3.2 magnitude occurred on 7 December. On 18 November 2024, an earthquake of magnitude 4 occurred in Kutch. On November 15, an earthquake of 4.2 magnitude occurred in Patan, North Gujarat.
Gujarat is a high risk zone in terms of earthquake. According to Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) data, nine major earthquakes occurred in Gujarat in the last 200 years. According to GSDMA, the Kutch earthquake of 26 January 2001 was the third largest and second most destructive earthquake to hit India in the last two centuries. Many towns and villages of the district were almost completely destroyed in that earthquake, in which about 13,800 people were killed and 1.67 lakh people were injured.
