‘Don’t play with fire’, America helped Taiwan while China gave warning

China warning to America: China’s three government bodies condemned US military aid and arms sales to Taiwan and vowed to take measures to protect regional security. The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday (December 20, 2024) condemned the US after announcing approval of $571.3 million in military aid and $295 million in arms sales to Taiwan.

On Sunday (December 22, 2024), the spokesperson of the State Council Office for Taiwan Affairs said clearly that China opposes the US providing arms to Taiwan in any form. The US actions seriously violate the One-China principles and the three China-US joint communiques, especially the August 17 communique, and refute the non-support of Taiwan independence by its leaders, who oppose Taiwan independence separatist forces. “Sends a seriously wrong signal.”

Stop giving arms to Taiwan immediately

China says Taiwan’s independence, separatist activities and external interference are the biggest threats to peace in the Taiwan Strait. China said, “We demand that the US immediately stop providing arms to Taiwan and handle the Taiwan issue with utmost discretion. “We warn Democratic Progressive Party officials that relying on the United States to seek independence and using military means to seek independence is a path to self-destruction.”

Why did China say helping Taiwan is like playing with fire?

The Taiwan question is central to China’s core interests and is the first red line in China-US relations that cannot be crossed. Aiding Taiwan’s independence by arming Taiwan is like playing with fire and will burn the US, and using the Taiwan question to contain China is doomed to failure.
