When Indira Gandhi became Finance Minister
The year of 1969 was very important for Indian politics. At that time Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of the country, and the finance ministry was taking charge of Deputy Prime Minister Morarji Desai. However, due to the internal differences of the Congress party, Morarji Desai was dropped from the party. After this decision, the post of Finance Minister became vacant, and the challenge of the budget to be presented after three months was in front. Indira Gandhi took charge of the Prime Minister as well as the Finance Ministry. On 28 February 1970, he set a new example by presenting the country’s budget. This was the first time a woman presented the budget in Parliament.
When Nirmala Sitharaman became full finance minister
After Indira Gandhi, Nirmala Sitharaman became the second woman in the country who took over as full -time Finance Minister. In 2019, she took charge as Finance Minister and has presented many important budgets since then. Nirmala Sitharaman has not only left her mark in the Finance Ministry, but also created history as the Defense Minister. She has also been India’s first full -time Women Defense Minister. Nirmala Sitharaman, associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party, is now going to present her eighth budget on 1 February 2025.
