Diwali Government Holiday: This year, there is confusion among traders and other people across the country regarding the date of Diwali festival – should Diwali be celebrated on 31st October or 1st November? This year Kartik Amavasya is falling in two days and Diwali is celebrated on Kartik Amavasya only, hence there is a confusion regarding Diwali.
National General Secretary of CAT and Chandni Chowk MP Shri Praveen Khandelwal has sent a letter to the Union Culture and Tourism Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in this regard requesting that Diwali be declared a government holiday on 31st October itself, so that the confusion ends. Is possible. Apart from this, CAT is sending circulars to business organizations across the country advising them to celebrate Diwali on 31st October only.
Diwali is the biggest festival of the country and also the most important festival for business and industry in India. On this day, Shri Ganesh and Mata Lakshmi are worshiped with great joy and enthusiasm in business establishments and homes across the country. For centuries this festival has been considered very auspicious for business.
Why did CAT advocate celebrating Diwali on 31st October – Know what is appropriate according to which scripture
National Convener of the Vedic and Spiritual Committee of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAT) and famous Veda Marmagya Acharya of Ujjain, Shri Durgesh Tare, while clarifying the situation in this regard, said that it is according to the scriptures to celebrate the festival of Diwali this year only on 31st October 2024. .
Diwali is a night-time festival, and this year Amavasya Tithi is starting at 3:40 pm on 31st October, Thursday. According to the scriptures, Diwali should be celebrated only when there is Amavasya Tithi in Pradosh Kaal and Maharatri (Nishit Kaal), for this reason celebrating Diwali on 31st October is best and according to the scriptures because Pradosh Kaal is falling in Amavasya on 31st October only.
Mentioned on the basis of a verse quoted from Shabdakalpadrum
In this regard, Acharya Tare, while mentioning the verse quoted from ‘Shabdkalpadrum’, said that
Amavasya Yada Raton Diwabha Gay Chaturdashi
Poojniya Tada Lakshmi Vijaya Sukharatrikah
He told that this verse is also quoted in Tarka Vachaspati Taranath Bhattacharya’s famous book ‘Vachaspatyam’. It is said that even if there is Chaturdashi, then Pradosh Vyapini Amavasya is called Sukhratrika i.e. Diwali.
Acharya Tare also said that worshiping Lakshmi has special significance during the stable ascendant and Pradosh period, because it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi appeared during the Pradosh period. By worshiping Lakshmi in a stable ascendant, the blessings of Mahalakshmi remain permanent. Amavasya on 1st November will end before Pradosh Kaal, hence celebrating Diwali on 1st November is not appropriate as per the scriptures and traditions. Therefore, Diwali should be celebrated on 31st October only.
Acharya Tare told that the Diwali festival will start tomorrow from Ahoi Ashtami, 24th October and in this series, Dhanteras will be on 29th October, Diwali on 31st October, Govardhan Puja on 2nd November, Bhai Dooj on 3rd November and then Chhath Puja and Tulsi Vivah on 12th November. The great festival of Diwali will end and soon after that the wedding season will begin.
