Disney Hotstar: Mukesh Ambani will run only Disney Hotstar, Jio Cinema will be merged

Reliance Industries: Reliance Industries had recently acquired the ownership rights of Disney Hotstar. Now the company has decided that Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema will be merged. After this the new platform will work only in the name of Disney Hotstar. The company that comes into existence after the merger will have about 100 channels and 2 streaming services.

Company does not want to run Jio Cinema separately

The Economic Times report claims that after the merger of Star India and Viacom18, Disney Hotstar will be the only streaming platform. The company does not want to run two streaming platforms. Jio Cinema will be merged. Reliance Industries has considered many options for streaming business. Earlier there was discussion that two platforms would be run. One of these will be for sports and the other will work in the entertainment sector. However, sources have claimed that the company liked Disney Hotstar’s platform because of its technology. He wants to run it only.

Disney Hotstar’s 50 crore downloads and Jio Cinema’s 10 crore downloads

Earlier in many media reports it was claimed that Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries is not in favor of running two separate platforms. Disney Hotstar has around 50 crore downloads. Jio Cinema’s downloads are 10 crores. In February this year, a deal was signed between Reliance and Disney for the merger of Star and Viacom 18. This deal is worth about 8.5 billion dollars. Due to this, the country’s biggest entertainment company is also going to come into existence.

3 platforms of Voot brand were merged into Jio Cinema.

According to the annual report of Reliance Industries, the average monthly users of Jio Cinema is 22.5 crore. Disney Hotstar has about 33.3 crore average monthly users. About 3.5 crore people have subscribed to this platform by paying fees. During the Indian Premier League (IPL), this figure was 6.1 crore subscribers. Earlier, Viacom 18 had merged its brand Voot with Jio Cinema. It had three platforms, namely Voot, Voot Select and Voot Kids.
