Farmers Union Protest: On the call of the United Kisan Morcha, pictures were seen of thousands of farmers from Uttar Pradesh struggling to enter Delhi since the morning of Monday (December 02, 2024). In view of the farmers’ march to Delhi, all the borders of Noida were converted into cantonments. To stop the farmers, more than 5000 police and paramilitary forces were deployed in Noida itself.
The police barricaded all the vehicles and allowed them to move forward only after checking them and then obstructed the movement for several hours by placing barricades. By around 4 pm, the Noida Greater Noida Expressway was opened and the barricades were removed. Long traffic jams were seen on all the routes from Noida to Delhi. At present, the farmers have given an ultimatum and that is that if the farmers’ views and demands are not accepted for 7 days, then the farmers’ organizations will march to Delhi.
Farmers put forward demand, ball is in administration’s court
Farmer leaders say that the administration had asked for 7 days’ time, which has been given by the farmers. Partial protest will continue at Dalit Prerna Sthal for 7 days. There was no clear conclusion to the talks held by the officials of the United Kisan Morcha with senior officials of the authority, police and district administration at the Yamuna Authority office yesterday.
A decision is still to be taken by the government on the demands of the farmers. Therefore, due to the talks reaching no conclusion, the farmer leaders have kept the plan of march to Delhi intact.
What are the demands of the farmers?
One of the main demands of the farmers is that they should be compensated and allotted land.
Farmers are demanding that under the old acquisition law, the plot should be increased by 10 percent and the compensation should be increased by 64.7 percent.
Also, for the land acquired after January 1, 2014, four times the market value and 20 percent of the acquired plot should be given.
Farmers also have other demands, which include guarantee of MSP, loan waiver, pension, withdrawal of police cases registered during previous protests and justice to the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
