Wrestlers Delhi Police Ruckus: On Wednesday (May 3) at around 11 pm, there was an argument and a scuffle between the wrestlers and the police who were staging a sit-in at Jantar Mantar in the national capital Delhi. Several videos of the incident have surfaced. The wrestlers allege that due to the rain, they had ordered beds, which the police stopped them from bringing. A video of the altercation between star player Bajrang Punia and the police has also surfaced. At the same time, wrestler Vinesh Phogat is seen crying in a video. Vinesh Phogat has made serious allegations. Delhi Police’s statement has also come on the matter.

What did Delhi Police say?
The Delhi Police has described the matter as a minor argument. DCP Pranab Tayal said, “During the strike by wrestlers at Jantar Mantar, AAP leader Somnath Bharti came to the protest site carrying a folding bed without permission. When we intervened, the supporters became aggressive and tried to remove the beds from the truck. After this, a minor scuffle took place and Somnath Bharti was taken into custody along with two others.

According to news agency PTI, another senior police officer said, “Some people tried to bring cots to the protest site. When the policemen posted on the spot questioned him about this, he became aggressive and the protesters also supported him. He wrongfully stopped a policeman and accused him of being drunk, when he was not. Police personnel are at the spot and the situation is under control now. No protestor was beaten up.
Bajrang Punia’s allegation
Wrestler Bajrang Punia alleged that the policemen abused and assaulted the sisters and daughters. He said that the support of the whole country is needed, everyone should come to Delhi. According to PTI, former wrestler Rajveer said, “The mattresses got wet due to the rain, so we were bringing folding beds to sleep but the police did not allow it.” Drunk policeman Dharmendra abused Vinesh Phogat and manhandled us.
He said, “They started beating us. Dushyant and Rahul, relatives of Bajrang Punia, have suffered head injuries. The police did not even allow the doctors to come to the spot. Even the lady constable misbehaved with us.
Bed was demanded to spend the night in the rain – Somnath Bharti
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti tweeted, “Just because the protesting women wrestlers were demanding a foldable bed to spend the night in the rain and I supported their demand, I was detained and taken to the temple.” Marg was brought to the police station.

Somnath Bharat said in a phone conversation with ABP News that the attitude of the Delhi Police is condemnable. The police have misbehaved with the wrestlers. He claimed that the police kept him in custody at the Mandir Marg police station.

Recently, two FIRs were registered against Brijbhushan Sharan Singh on the basis of complaints of seven female wrestlers in Delhi.
