Umar Khalid Gets Bail: Umar Khalid, accused in the Delhi riots case, got a big relief from the Karkardooma court on Monday (December 12). The Karkardooma court has granted one week’s interim bail to the accused Umar Khalid. Umar Khalid has been granted interim bail to attend his sister’s wedding ceremony. The court has asked Umar Khalid to surrender on 30 December. Got bail for a week from 23 December.
Earlier on Saturday (December 3), Delhi’s Karkardooma Court acquitted Umar Khalid, former student union leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University, in a case of stone pelting in the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots. Another student leader Khalid Saifi was also acquitted in the case.
Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala had issued an order acquitting him in the stone pelting case. However, an FIR has been registered against the two under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for hatching a larger conspiracy behind the riots, for which they will have to remain in jail.
