Know what is the whole matter?
This incident took place on December 29, 1996, when Thota Trimurthulu, belonging to the Pedda Kapu community, was an independent MLA from Ramachandrapuram assembly in Godavari district. The people of the then MLA Trimurthulu picked up five Dalit youth Koti Chinna Raju, Dadala Venkataratnam, Challapudi Pattabhiramayya, Kanikela Ganapathy and Puvvala Venkataraman from the village and brought them to the MLA’s residence. There, the heads of Chinna Raju and Venkataratnam were shaved and the remaining three were beaten badly. The age of all the victims was between 25-30 years.
According to the report of Indian Express, all the Dalit youths were working as polling agents of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the local polling station there. According to the report, the victims had protested against alleged rigging against MLA Trimurthulu in the 1994 assembly elections. Even after this, these people continued to raise their voice against the MLA. Angered by this, MLA Trimurthulu and all those people carried out this incident with the aim of taking revenge.
On January 7, 1997, the police arrested Trimurthulu and registered a case against him and his other associates under various sections including the SC/ST Act. After the chargesheet was issued, everyone including the MLA came out on bail. After this, the hearing of the case continued and the accused kept making rounds from the Sessions Court to the High Court.
