Kiren Rijiju On Collegium: Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju once again commented on the Supreme Court Collegium on Saturday (April 22). Rijiju said in Arunachal Pradesh that collegium is a mind game.
Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was asked that many recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium are pending with the Central Government. In this, names have also been sent regarding the appointment of the Chief Justice of the High Court. To this, Rijiju said, “The collegium issue is ultimately a mind game. In such a situation, I do not want to say anything about it now. In fact, he said this during an event for the launch of 254 4G mobile network towers in Arunachal Pradesh.
Statements made earlier regarding collegium
Kiren Rijiju has given statements regarding the collegium system many times before. Rijiju had said in January this year that judges do not have to contest elections. Once he becomes a judge, he does not have to face any investigation. Still, the judges should not think that the public is not paying attention. People are watching you. People elect us (political parties) to bring them into the government. If they do not like the work, then they give a chance to others. An independent judiciary is necessary for a strong democracy and country.
Rijiju had also said in February 2023, “I have seen reports in the media that the Supreme Court has given a warning (on the collegium). The people of this country are the owners of this country, we are the servants. Our guide is the Constitution. The country will run according to the constitution. No one can warn anyone. We see ourselves as servants.” BJP and Congress have been targeting him for this statement.
