Punjab And Haryana Court: The Punjab government told the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday (March 28) that it was close to arresting Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De. The court of Justice NS Shekhawat was hearing a petition filed by advocate Iman Singh Khara, seeking release of Amritpal Singh from alleged police custody.
He is absconding since the beginning of police action against fugitive Amritpal Singh and his supporters in the state on March 18. The government told the court that Amritpal Singh has not been arrested and talks are on with other agencies. The judge asked him to say the same in an affidavit.
What does Iman Singh Khara have to say?
Regarding the matter, Waris Punjab De’s legal advisor Iman Singh Khara said, “The judge asked us to present the affidavit or evidence, if any. The court has fixed March 29 as the next date of hearing. We will collect all the evidence that we can collect. Khara had recently filed a habeas corpus petition, claiming that Amritpal Singh was in “illegal custody” of the police.

During the hearing of this case, Advocate General of Punjab Vinod Ghai told the court that Amritpal Singh has not been arrested yet. Talking to reporters outside the court premises, the petitioner said that the AG informed the court that they were close to nabbing Amritpal Singh. He was coordinating with the agencies for this. In this case, the judge has asked him to file an affidavit. The court also asked the petitioner to file an affidavit to produce evidence that Amritpal Singh was allegedly in police custody.
