Bangladesh Violence: The hearing on the bail plea of Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh, who is facing treason charges, will be held on January 2. Minority religious leaders have appealed to the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, Muhammad Yunus, that the petition should be considered impartially.
Religious leaders say that every citizen has the right to bail. Father Albert Rosario of St. Mary’s Cathedral and renowned writer Farhad Mazhar have also supported the right to bail.
Attacks on minorities and the role of the government
The incidents of attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh have brought the position of the interim government under question. Critics allege that the government of Muhammad Yunus does not want the news of these attacks to reach the international level. However, Yunus met with religious leaders on Thursday and assured to get accurate information about these attacks and bring the culprits to justice. Yunus claims that there is a difference between the news published in foreign media and the reality. He suggested setting up a process to exchange information.
Proposal for peace and unity
In the meeting, Chief Advisor of Buddhist Association Sukomal Baruah proposed to organize an international conference. Avinash Mitra, assistant secretary of Ramna Harichand Temple, presented the complaints of the Hindu community, which Yunus assured to consider carefully.
Ban on Sheikh Hasina’s speeches
A Bangladesh court on Thursday (December 5) banned the broadcast and publication of speeches by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Hasina, who was ousted from power and exiled to India following protests in August, recently addressed supporters of her party Awami League in New York digitally. In this address, he criticized the interim government and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
Anti-India rhetoric of the interim government
Hasina accused the interim government of doing anti-Muslim politics and spreading poison against India. The political situation of Bangladesh and tension in relations with India may increase further due to these incidents.
