Quad summit 2024: The heads of state of India, America, Japan and Australia attended the Quad summit. This time the Quad summit was held in Delaware, the hometown of US President Biden. During this, the Quad leaders issued a joint statement. In this, all the leaders clearly condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations.
Apart from this, the Quad leaders also expressed concern about the situation in the East and South China Sea.
‘Condemn terrorist attacks including 26/11 attacks in Mumbai-Pathankot’
In their joint statement on terrorism and violent extremism, the Quad leaders said, “We unequivocally condemn terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism. We are committed to working together to promote accountability for the perpetrators of such terrorist attacks. We condemn terrorist attacks, including the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai and Pathankot, and reiterate our commitment to appropriately designate those responsible by the UN Security Council 1267 Sanctions Committee.”
Concern expressed over the situation in the East and South China Sea
We are deeply concerned about the situation in the East and South China Sea, the Quad leaders said in their statement, “We are deeply concerned about the situation in the East and South China Sea. We continue to express our serious concern about the militarization of disputed features and coercive and intimidating maneuvers in the South China Sea. We condemn the dangerous use of coast guard and maritime militia ships, including the increased use of dangerous maneuvers. We also oppose attempts to disrupt other countries’ offshore resource exploitation activities. We reaffirm that maritime disputes should be resolved peacefully and in accordance with international law, as reflected in UNCLOS.”
Concern was also expressed over the Russia-Ukraine war
Ongoing war in Ukraine The Quad leaders said, “We express our deep concern at the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has terrible and tragic humanitarian consequences. Each of us has visited Ukraine since the war began, and witnessed it firsthand. We reiterate the need for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law, consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
