China: China held a meeting with 19 countries of the Indian Ocean region this week, from which India remained absent. However, sources say that India was not invited in this meeting. A statement from the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), an organization affiliated with China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that 19 countries participated in the meeting of the China-Indian Ocean Regional Forum on Development Cooperation on November 21.

China has been striving to increase influence in the strategic Indian Ocean region with investments in ports and infrastructure in several countries, including Pakistan and Sri Lanka. China’s aim is clearly to counter India’s strong influence in the Indian Ocean region, where pro-India organizations such as the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), which has 23 countries as members, have taken strong roots.
