Along with cleaning the house, one should also take bath by applying ointment on the body to improve one’s appearance and beauty. On this day, there is a tradition of lighting 14 lamps of oil or sesame oil at night. Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month is celebrated as Narak Chaudas, Roop Chaturdashi or Chhoti Diwali.

On this day, Yamraj, the god of death, is worshipped. By lighting lamps in the corners of the house, one wishes for freedom from untimely death.
