Nagari Dubraj, a special variety of scented rice in Chhattisgarh, has got GI tag. This will give new identity to this variety at national and international level. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey have congratulated and congratulated the farmers of the state, Maa Durga self-help group of the city and agricultural scientists of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University for this big achievement.

The initiative of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University and Government of Chhattisgarh bore fruits. Nagri Dubraj productive women self-help group Maa Durga self-help group has been given GI tag for Nagri’s Dubraj by the Intellectual Property Rights Authority of the Government of India. Significantly, for this, continuous efforts were being made for the last few years. Due to getting GI tag for Dubraj rice of the city, its demand will increase in the country as well as abroad. Due to this, the farmers of the city area of Dhamtari district will get economic benefit.

Geographical Indications tag is a type of intellectual property right in which the quality and importance of any product is determined by the geographical environment of that particular place. In this, the place of origin of that product is recognized. In this regard, there has been continuous correspondence with the Intellectual Property Rights Authority. Officials said that under the guidance of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Maa Durga self-help group of Nagri Dubraj producer of village Bagrumnala, Nagri district Dhamtari, has registered G.I. applied for the tag.
This rice is also related to religious beliefs and Lord Rama.
Nagari Dubraj rice, known as Basmati of Chhattisgarh, is the traditional, aromatic rice variety of the state. Which has a lot of fame and demand even outside Chhattisgarh. Shringi Rishi Ashram area of Sihawa is considered to be the origin place of Nagri Dubraj. According to religious beliefs, Shringi Rishi Ashram is related to the Putreshti Yagya organized by King Dashrath to get children and the birth of Lord Rama. In various research papers, the place of origin of Dubraj rice has been told only to Sihawa city.
