Chhath Puja 2023: Chhath festival is an important festival of Hinduism, which is celebrated twice a year like Navratri. According to the Panchang, the first Chhath is celebrated in the month of Chaitra and the second is celebrated in the month of Kartik. Chhath Mahaparva is celebrated all over the country. But especially in parts like Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, its popularity is seen.

This year Chaiti Chhath Puja started from March 25, 2023, which ended today by offering Arghya to Udayagami i.e. the rising sun. Now after this, Chhath Mahaparva will start on November 17 in the month of Kartik, which will be celebrated for 4 days from Nahay-Khay to Udayagami Arghya.

Significance of Chhath Mahaparva

Chhath Mahaparva is called the great festival of folk-faith. People’s faith and belief is connected with this. That’s why it is called Mahaparva. It is believed that by observing Chhath Vrat all wishes are fulfilled by the grace of Chhathi Maiya and Lord Bhaskar. Chhath festival is celebrated for the good health, happiness and prosperity of children, honeymoon and family members. Traditional songs and Thekua Prasad also have special importance in Chhath Vrat. The beginning of Chhath Puja is considered to be from Karna, the son of Surya. It is believed that Karna was the first to worship the Sun by standing in water for hours.

The rules of Chhath Vrat are considered the most difficult of all the rituals. It is celebrated for the whole four days and the Vrati observes a waterless fast of 36 hours. On the first day Nahay is eaten, on the second day there is Kharna, on the third day Arghya is offered to the setting sun, and on the last day Chhath Vrat is concluded by offering Arghya to the rising Sun.
