From the academic session of 2026 and 27, there will be two options in the subjects of Science and Social Science for students of class 9th and 10th, in which students can choose Basic or Advanced if they wish. The subject will be taught in a basic i.e. a slightly easier manner. At the same time, the advanced exam will be a little difficult.
According to the current standards, students who have to study mathematics in college or in the future are already choosing between basic or advanced. Now this option will also be given for subjects like Science and Social Science. This decision can be taken soon under the National Education Policy 2020. The initiative was recently approved in the CBSE curriculum committee meeting and is now awaiting approval from the governing body.
CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh, while giving information while talking to ABP News, says, “This is part of the implementation being done by NEP. After the arrival of NCERT books, this offer will be available from the academic year 2026-27. However, this scheme Work is still being done and it will depend on the new textbooks whether different levels can be made for the students or not. Two books should be made for the same or two sets of different types of question papers should be made from the same type of books.
There will be less pressure on students
At present, CBSE is offering options in Mathematics at two levels, Basic and Advanced. For information, let us tell you that in the board examinations of 2023-24, 15,88,041 students had registered for standard or advanced level mathematics, while 6,79,560 students had registered for basic level. It is believed that through this the pressure on the students will be reduced and the tuition system will also be affected.
How will the studies be done?
Although students will be given the option regarding basic and advanced, but according to the proposal given at present, all the students will study through the same type of books or curriculum. According to CBSE, there is no plan to make any changes in the curriculum. But the level of question paper in the examination will be different for basic and advanced students. The question paper of Basic will be a little easy whereas the question paper of Advanced will be difficult.
How will students benefit from this option?
It is believed that through the option of Basic and Advanced, the pressure on students will be reduced and there will be no difference in the quality of education. Because the curriculum will be the same for all the students, hence all the students will get the same education. Also, if the student gets very good marks in Basic, then the options of studying these subjects for Science or Social Science will also be open in the future.
How do students choose between basic and advanced?
The student will have to choose between Basic and Advanced at the beginning of the academic session itself. If a student wants to study engineering or medicine in future, then he can take advanced option. Students who want to continue their studies in Humanities after 10th can choose Basic as an option.
