Mumbai News: The Maharashtra government on Monday released Rs 177.8 crore as compensation to farmers for crop damage caused by unseasonal rains last month. According to an official release, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde It had earlier directed the officials to consider the claims of the farmers regarding the damage caused to the crops and provide financial assistance.
According to the statement, after verification, the state government released an amount of Rs 177.8 crore to the farmers of those districts where crops were damaged due to unseasonal rains last month. According to the state government, an amount of Rs 84.75 crore was released to the commissioner of Aurangabad revenue division, while Rs 63.09 crore was released to Nashik division, Rs 24.57 crore to Amravati and Rs 5.37 crore to Pune.
Unseasonal rain affected crops
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in Amravati on Monday (April 10) that unseasonal rains in the last two days have damaged crops on over 7,400 hectares in five districts of western Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Crops have been affected in Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Washim and Buldhana districts due to intermittent rains.
Talking to reporters after holding a review meeting in Amravati district, Fadnavis said, “Crops of more than 7,400 hectares have been damaged. Damage assessment has been completed on 3,243 hectares of land. The remaining evaluation work will be completed soon. At least 7,596 farmers have been affected by the unseasonal rains.
Seven people died due to strong wind and rain
Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the state government would provide financial assistance to the families of those killed in the incident when a tree fell on a tin shed in a temple complex due to strong wind and rain in Akola district. He said, “The government has also decided to bear the entire medical expenses of the injured persons, who had taken shelter in the temple (on which the tree fell).” Wind and rain caused a tree to fall on a tin shed in a temple complex, killing seven people standing under it and injuring 37 others. Officials gave this information on Monday.
